Closing of this year's edition of ChangeMaker Lab

Mondragon Unibertsitatea has closed this year's Changemaker Lab with the participation of the Vice Rector of Mondragon Unibertsitatea and the sponsors of the event.

Today, 26 January, Wednesday, this year's Changemaker Lab has been closed at the Orona Ideo campus of Mondragon Unibertsitatea.

21 students participated in this year's edition and, divided into 4 teams, they worked on different projects over a period of 3 months.

All the projects received a cash prize after being presented and defended in front of the jury, which was made up of representatives of the sponsoring companies (Gaztenpresa Fundazioa and Saiolan), the vice-rector of Mondragon Unibertsiatea and the event's co-hosts.

The first prize of 400 euros went to the Intelligent Water project developed by Iñaki Urdanpilleta (Degree in Mechanical Engineering), Fabian Wilshues de Chavez (Degree in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts), Iker Etxebarria Espiña (Degree in Mechanical Engineering), Xabier Ostolaza (Degree in Mechanical Engineering) and Ibai Urteaga (Degree in Mechanical Engineering). This is an intelligent irrigation system for saving water in large plantations.

The second prize of 300 euros went to the MySnack project developed by Aitana Rodrigo (Degree in Biomedical Engineering), Olatz Sanz Sánchez (Degree in Biomedical Engineering), Iñigo Arteagabeitia Luis (Degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation - LEINN), Josu Larrañaga (Degree in Mechanical Engineering), Edurne Atutxa Ortega (Degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation - LEINN), and María Jubeto Chorro (Degree in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts). This is a healthy and social snack to combat cardiovascular diseases.

The third prize of 200 euros went to the Surfins project developed by Enara Agote Urango (Degree in Industrial Design and Product Development Engineering), Ander Vaqueriza Navajas, (Degree in Ecotechnologies in Industrial Processes), Daniel Martín (Degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation - LEINN), and Aritz Urtueta (Degree in Mechanical Engineering). These are surf keels created from plastics collected from the sea.

And the fourth prize of 100 euros went to the Blowroad project developed by Iván González Martínez (Degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation - LEINN), Pablo Montserrat Iturria (Degree in Mechanical Engineering), Ainara Sarria Aguirre (Degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation - LEINN), Jeongsoo (Suri) Lee (Degree in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts), Jorge Irizar Saiz (Degree in Industrial Organisation Engineering) and María Soledad López Marcilla (Degree in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts).

This year's Changemaker Lab was a hybrid of face-to-face and online sessions. It began on 3 November 2021 and ended on 26 January 2022. During this time, participants met on Wednesday mornings at different Mondragon Unibertsitatea campuses (Bilbao AS Fabrik, LABe, Orona Ideo, Oñati, etc.) to tackle 7 of the 8 modules included in the programme. The fifth module was a 3-day learning expedition to Madrid.
