Students in the 2nd year of the Degree in Industrial Design Engineering have won the 5th edition of PBLday, organised by Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa on the Orona Ideo campus. The 25 best projects developed by the students of the 9 engineering degrees of Mondragon Unibertsitatea were exhibited today on the Orona Ideo campus to compete in the 5th edition of PBLday. The event was attended by 500 engineering students from the university and visiting students from several secondary school institutions.

The works participating at the event belong to different fields of engineering, such as energy, biomedicine, industrial ecotechnology, industrial design, electronics, computer science, mechanics, organisation, and mechatronics. The groups have responded to challenges such as the development of solutions for a broken jaw, development of an artificial muscle prototype, an audio amplifier, a folding wind turbine, a mechanical jack for lifting cars, an electric car for children, a tandem bicycle made of bamboo, a video game that encourages physical activity among children, development of a surfboard with cardboard core, etc.

A jury composed of university professors and representatives of several companies and institutions (Orona, Ikerlan, Gureak, Innobasque, and Beterri Buruntza) visited the 25 booths, where over 130 students appeared to defend their work and receive any of the awards. The jury assessed the proposed technical solutions, as well as the communication capacity of the teams and the media presented (model, poster, and video).

After the assessment, the jury selected 2 winning groups:

Another 2 projects also received a special mention:

A practical and innovative model

PBL (Project Based Learning) is a learning method based on solving real problems, which has been implemented by the Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragon Unibertsitatea for more than 10 years. This educational model seeks to ensure that students can apply knowledge in the same way they will in the future, facing and solving problems by putting into practice the different fields of knowledge acquired during the course.
