On 13 February, the students of the Master’s degree in Biomedical Technology had the opportunity to attend a presentation offered by Dr Gorka Epelde, researcher of the Big Data and Personalised Medicine research line of the eHealth and Biomedical Applications area of Vicomtech. In relation to the content addressed in the subject Bioinformatics and Data Analysis, Epelde presented the work carried out in his daily work at Vicomtech, among other aspects involved in research in a specialised technological centre.

Gorka Epelde took advantage of the visit to the Higher Polytechnic School to explain different projects being developed by Vicomtech in the field of e-health and biomedicine. They include the Desiree project, a new artificial intelligence technology for the treatment of breast cancer; the Midas project (Meaningful Integration of Data, Analytics, and Services), a European project whose objective is the deployment of a unified big data platform that supports the needs of European legislators and citizens by defining and evaluating public health policies based on heterogeneous Health data; and the Captain project, an assistant coach on a projected interface.

Mondragon Unibertsitatea is a university aligned with the needs and challenges of the companies in its surrounding area and promotes these collaborations and presentations to enable students to obtain first-hand knowledge in the classroom on the reality and challenges faced by organisations.
