On 16 January, the Conference on battery-based storage systems took place on the Orona Ideo campus, where experts from the University of Colorado, Ikerlan, CIC Energigune and Mondragon Unibertsitatea presented the advances and strategic challenges they face in the field of Storage systems.

The four promoters have renowned lines of research in the field of batteries, and the conference attracted dozens of business professionals and allowed the students of the Degree in Energy Engineering to know first-hand the challenges to which Industry and society are facing.

Researchers Gregory Plett and Scott Trimboli from the University of Colorado offered the first most outstanding papers. Both are members of the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering and their research on large capacity batteries has been applied in projects with automotive companies.

In the second part of the conference, research staff from Mondragon Unibertsitatea, Ikerlan and CIC Energigune took the floor. The three entities collaborate jointly in several research projects and direct several doctoral theses in the field of storage.

Storage, an opportunity

Storage systems represent a great professional opportunity for students studying the Degree in Energy Engineering, as batteries are increasingly present in the electronic devices used in daily life (laptops, watches, speakers, vacuum cleaners, etc.) and represent a key element for the transition to electric vehicles (cars, bicycles, electric buses, etc.) as well as for the generation of energy through renewable sources, which are rising trends in today’s society.
