A practical project-based teaching model and close contact with local companies are the two differentiating factors of Mondragón’s Higher Polytechnic School that could be studied first-hand by the Catalan representatives.

Representatives of the Delegation of the Vocational Training Vice-Ministry of the Basque Government’s Education Department accompanied representatives from Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) and the Barcelona Vocational Training Foundation (Fundación Barcelona FP) on a visit to the facilities of the Faculty of Engineering of Mondragon Unibertsitatea. The visit was guided by Carlos García, the General Coordinator of the Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragón, and Gorka Aretxaga, the Coordinator of the its Degree-level courses.   

During the two-hour visit the entities gained first-hand knowledge of the state-of-the-art facilities available to the students on degree-level courses, along with the challenges and projects they take on throughout the teaching period. 

The implementation of dual education at the Higher Polytechnic School and the good practice on the final study placements were another of the issues discussed. Finally, the School’s representatives took the chance to speak about different examples of partnerships with local companies, as they are a reference model in the region.

MGEP’s degree-level training courses: the main figures

The Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragón (MGEP) currently has 220 students on degree-level courses, 50 of whom have taken part in the dual education programmes, accounting for 52% of the second-year students. The degree-level vocational training courses taught are Automation and Industrial Robotics, Industrial Mechatronics, Mechanical Manufacturing Production Programming, Design for Mechanical Manufacturing and Network Administration. The work placements have earned a score of over 9 out of 10 from the companies and 8.5 out of 10 from the students.
