The Internet of Things (IoT) is a revolutionary change for many sectors such as health, construction, the automotive and railway industries and many more. The IoT is making it possible for any device to connect and communicate, increasing the availability of the data collected. This goes hand-in-hand with the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, which make it possible to process data in order to generate useful knowledge about the environment.

Despite the numerous benefits, the vulnerability of these devices in terms of security continues to be a problem. Users are also faced with the challenge of understanding and trusting in their devices, which are becoming increasingly complex and intelligent, sometimes leading to distrust, concerns about use and even rejection. This is where the InSecTT project plays an important role. InSecTT stands for Intelligent Secure Trusted Things and it has 52 members participating from 12 countries in the European Union and Turkey. With a budget of more than 40 million euros distributed over 3 years, it aims to be the most successful collaborative research project in its field and Mondragon Unibertsitatea is one of the participants. In this case by carrying out research and development of intelligent communication solutions for traffic safety in the automotive and railway sector.

InSecTT provides secure solutions for European industry throughout the supply chain. Creating trust in smart systems and increasing their social acceptance is one of the greatest challenges for releasing all the potential of the IoT. One of the keys of the Internet of Things is Artificial Intelligence and therefore the InSecTT Project also aims to create trust in smart systems and solutions based on AI and take it to the next level: the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT).

The Artificial Intelligence of Things is the natural development both for Artificial Intelligence and for the Internet of Things because they benefit each other mutually. The IoT increases the value of AI through connectivity, the exchange and collection of data, while AI increases the value of the IoT by generating useful information by processing data through automatic learning.

The INSECTT, Intelligent Secure Trustable Things, Project has been funded by the European Commission, as part of the "H2020-ECSEL-2019-1-IA-two-stage" programme.
