The first promotion of students of the University Master's Degree in Intelligent Energy Systems of Mondragon Unibertsitatea is finishing its first course of the master. Durante las últimas semanas han sido 2 las empresas que han visitado. At the end of April they visited the facilities of ULMA Embbeded, while in May they visited the company CAF Power & Automation.

CAF Power & Automation, based in the Miramón Technology Park, develops electric traction systems, energy optimization systems and control and communication systems for the railway sector (from streetcars to locomotives). The company has an ambitious technological and product development plan that promotes collaboration and research with companies, universities and technology centers, including Mondragon Unibertsitatea.

The university maintains a close relationship with the company and the visit of the students of the Master in Intelligent Energy Systems has been aligned to the contents that are worked in the subject Testing and Validation Platforms. Specifically in this subject, one of the teachers is an employee of CAF Power & Automation, who together with the head of the laboratory has taught in first person the Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) platforms that they have in Miramón..

CAF Power & Automation develops and manufactures traction converters for the railway industry and for the validation of on-board control strategies, the company has made a considerable effort to virtualize the traction and accumulation systems using HIL simulators. It currently has more than 10 simulators in its laboratory where it verifies and tests its algorithms, something that the students were able to see first-hand.
