In the Basque Country it is predicted that by 2031, more than 46% of the population will be over 55 years old, and in Europe, by the year 2025, there will be more than 88 million citizens over that age. These figures allow us to draw two main conclusions:

  • It is important to work on new proposals and solutions that will enable the improvement of the ageing process from its earliest phases.
  • It is urgent, and a priority, to work on new proposals and solutions that guarantee a good quality of life for elderly people and their environment.
  • The Silver Economy is a great business opportunity for anyone who develops innovative and fresh ideas.

In this context, Mondragon Gol Eskola Politeknikoa, in collaboration with the Regional Government of Bizkaia and the Nagusi Intelligence Centre, has designed launched the first promotion of the Master's Degree in Technological Entrepreneurship for the Silver Economy, a master's degree of nine months duration that will begin in October 2021 and which will be conducted at the Urduliz Tower on-site.

Persons specialising in this programme will be trained to provide innovative processes and identify key needs to transform them into value proposals: new products and attractive services for senior citizens. The company has the need to identify and design significant experiences for people who are approaching, or find themselves in, the latter stage of their life, and there may be many ways to do this:

  • Social relationships, sport, leisure, travel...
  • Orthopaedic or medical devices
  • Teleassistance, full care at home, sensors, devices...
  • A healthy diet, APPs, friendly environments...
  • Pensions, savings, formalities...

The master's will train professionals to identify new value proposals and improve the futures of elderly people and their environment. All this is accompanied by collaborative organisations and entities working on the Silver Economy and the training and assessment is provided by expert staff in technology, biomedical technologies, people-centred design and entrepreneurship of Mondragon Unibertsitatea.
