The theme of the European Mobility Week 2020 is "Zero-emissions mobility for all". As mentioned by Ursula von der Leye (President of the European Commission), the theme is intended to reflect the ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, a goal enshrined in the European Green Pact.

Although research shows that car journeys have been reduced in large cities and that 50% of journeys are expected to take place by public transport, by bicycle or walking, according to the latest reports from the European Environment Agency (EEA), transport emissions have increased considerably compared to 1990 levels. Specifically, transport sector emissions increased by 28% between 1990 and 2018, underlining the need to promote climate-neutral solutions for urban transport.

According to the Paris Agreement, with the goal of maintaining global warming at 1.5 degrees, carbon neutrality is key for 2050. This neutrality can be achieved through a variety of methods; like reducing carbon emissions through the application of low-emission and “zero-emission” solutions for public and private transport, as well as encouraging the use of bicycles or walking displacement. Recent estimates show that about 80% of the world's population will live in urban areas by 2050; therefore, cities are the best framework for implementing these ambitious plans.

The Sport Service of Mondragon Unibertsitatea also wants to help promoting zero-emission alternative transports, and one more course, will launch a bicycle loan service. This year, due to COvid-19, safety protocols will be followed and in addition to the usual loan agrement, desinfection work will also be carried out on the bicycles.

At the same time, it is necessary to internalize the rules that will allow coexistence between pedestrians and these kinds of transport (bicycles, scooters, etc.). This work will be carried out in the schools of Eskoriatza during this year's mobility week. The organization of these activities is carried out in collaboration with the Sports Service of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, schools and the town of Eskoriatza, where students will create the "decalogue of the coexistence of scooter, bicycle and pedestrian", and from this document, the sports service we will adapt and disseminate it among the university community. For now, here is an interesting infographic on sustainable, safe and healthy mobility.

Finally, posters will be put up with the distances between the Mondragon Unibertsitatea campuses, indicating the distances and time between them. We will notify you when they are published.

Encourage yourself to support emission-free mobility! Take the bike and take care of the environment!!
