Abstract:

The companies of the future are going to be Model-Based Enterprise (MBE), in which 3D digital representation is at the heart of product design and development activities. Therefore, the main objective of this doctoral thesis is to propose and validate 3D modeling strategies for obtaining quality models in terms of reusability in CAD systems. Thus, the behavior of the 3 most widespread formal modeling methodologies (Horizontal Modeling Methodology, Explicit Reference Modeling Methodology and Resilient Modeling Strategy) is analyzed. The Explicit Reference Methodology has proven to be particularly effective in design scenarios involving complex geometry. As a result of this doctoral thesis the following contributions are obtained:

  • A process for evaluating the quality of parametric models in the face of geometric variations - QCAD- is proposed.
  • Metrics are defined to evaluate the performance of the different modeling routes.
  • Two modeling strategies that improve the performance of the Explicit Reference Modeling Methodology are proposed and validated maximizing the robustness and flexibility and reducing the model regeneration time.
