DUAL MENTION
1. Introduction
DUAL training is one of the hallmarks of Mondragon University. This degree obtained Dual Mention recognition in accordance with Royal Decree 822/2021, following a favourable report from Unibasq dated 17 June 2022.
The application for recognition of the dual nature of the Degree in Business Administration and Management follows the guidelines set out in Royal Decree 822/2021 of 29 September.
The number of credits in the dual modality will range from 20% to 40% of the ECTS credits for the degree (240 ECTS), depending on the optional internship subjects selected by the students.
2. Access and admission of students to the Dual Degree Programme
The procedure for distributing students for the dual degree programme among the various participating entities or institutions is carried out in accordance with the admission criteria for the degree programme.
- A list of participating institutions or entities is drawn up, taking into account the proposed project and the following criteria:
- Plan for the development of activities in the company: 60%
- Future prospects for the student in the company: 15%
- Future prospects of the organisation within the dual community: 15%
- Remuneration: 10%
- Students are assigned to companies according to the order of the lists. At this stage, the criterion of the student's geographical location during the academic year is introduced in order to facilitate logistics and travel between the University and the company.
The selected entities must comply with the provisions of Article 22 of RD 822/2021.
The relationship between the student and the company will be formalised through a contract for dual university training, under the terms established in Article 11.3 of the revised text of the Workers' Statute Law, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 2/2015 of 23 October, although this relationship may be replaced by a university-company agreement -company agreement, in accordance with the provisions of the Tenth Transitional Provision of Organic Law 2/20223 of 22 March on the University System, ensuring at all times that the minimum remuneration established by the Faculty is equivalent to the Minimum Interprofessional Salary when the stay in the company is full-time, or its proportional part in the case of part-time work.
The following are the commitments made by the company with regard to dual training students:
- Commitment by the company to retain the student until completion of the degree.
- Requirement for a learning curve within the company, i.e. progress in the performance of tasks, with an increase in their difficulty and leading to the fulfilment of the skills related to the designated subject.
- The company must provide sufficient data, information and contacts for the proper development of the training activities.
- Commitment on the part of the Faculty to monitor and supervise the work placements.
The University guarantees the monitoring of the dual modality for each of the students participating in it, through a process in which three annual meetings are held and documented between the University tutor and the internal trainer of the company (mentor), as described in previous paragraphs.
To this end, a specific tutoring system is established, which is carried out at three different times of the year.
- Before starting the work placement, an initial meeting is held, where the Faculty tutor brings together the student and the company mentor, with the aim of:
- Establish commitments regarding the planning of tasks and training activities to be carried out by the student at the company during their placement, in line with the professional skills defined in the degree programme and linked to the subjects studied. The method for documenting and submitting the tasks completed at the company will also be established.
- Share the academic commitments that the student will have to carry out in the company and the materials, resources or information that they will need from the company to do so.
- Report on the specifics of the academic calendar for the course that is beginning: teaching periods, schedules with the activities to be carried out to coordinate the activities in the classroom and in the company.
- Establish the calendar of follow-up meetings during the course.
- During the period of stay at the company, meetings will be held between the Faculty tutor, the student and the company tutor to discuss the following issues:
- Provide qualitative feedback on the activities completed by the students.
- Evaluate the activities carried out at the company and check whether the required levels of competence and learning outcomes have been achieved.
- Gather the student's assessment of academic issues and their stay at the company.
- At the end of the academic year, during the month of July, a closing meeting is held to discuss these objectives with the company mentor and the student:
- Provide qualitative feedback on the student's academic progress during their stay.
- Final assessment of the degree competencies based on the student's performance at the company.
- Review of the placement at the company: relations with the University, positive aspects, areas for improvement, coordination of activities, and other issues.
In addition to these three moments, any of the three parties (student, company mentor, tutor) may request additional tutoring at any time during the course, if deemed necessary.
When the organisation/company fails to comply with the conditions contained in the cooperation agreements that regulate them, the student, through the Faculty Tutor, must inform the Degree Coordinator, who, once aware of the circumstances, will assess the opportunity to continue the internship or, where appropriate, terminate it and assign a new company to the student.
3. Academic staff
Monitoring the placement in the company requires the definition of two roles within the profile of the academic teaching staff participating in the dual training project.
The training received by each of them is as follows:
- Subject teacher associated with training activities in companies
- Company experience
- Qualification objectives
- Integration of external activities into the subject
- Assessment
- Academic tutor for dual-mode students and final degree project
- Explanation of model
- List of subjects associated with the mode and their activities
- Functions
- Annual follow-up meetings
The figures mentioned above belong to the Faculty's Teaching and Research Staff.
Prior to the students joining the company, a meeting is held between the academic tutor for dual training and the company mentor, at which the following points are discussed:
- Explanation of the model
- List of subjects associated with the modality and its activities
- Functions of the tutor/mentor
- Monitoring
- Assessment
All those participating in the dual training project are aware of the rights and obligations inherent to their work, which are set out in the corresponding educational cooperation agreements.
4. Material resources and services
The University-Business Relations service, responsible for student internships, verifies during its visits that the facilities and infrastructure of the companies/entities with which the corresponding collaboration agreements are signed are adequate.
Similarly, follow-up meetings between the academic tutor and the company mentor verify that the conditions under which the students carry out their internships are appropriate.
The incorporation of new entities into dual training is conditional upon their acceptance of and compliance with the conditions established in the framework agreement.
