Mechanical engineering students visit AVS Next
This Basque company develops components for the aerospace sector and last year they put a satellite into orbit
On May 29 and 30, third-year students of the Mechanical Engineering Degree at Mondragon University visited the facilities of AVS in Vitoria-Gasteiz. This company dedicated to the aerospace sector has become a global leader, and in 2024 they launched the LUR-1 satellite, developed entirely in the Basque Country, into orbit.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to learn about the types of work a mechanical engineer can perform in the aerospace sector. Specifically, they were able to see up close the mechanical equipment used in space research (satellites and rovers, among others), as well as the technical and technological challenges these devices face.
Mechanical Engineering
Mondragon University offers the Mechanical Engineering degree at its Arrasate and Goierrri campuses. Students with this profile are trained to design and develop various machines and equipment, gaining knowledge in a wide variety of topics such as mechanical design, structural design and calculation of machines and mechanisms, materials and manufacturing, processes, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer, quality, and electric/pneumatic and hydraulic actuators, among others. Therefore, this profile is in high industrial demand.
At Mondragon University, students have the opportunity to combine work and studies through a dual program (paid internship). All students complete their final degree project in the company, and those who wish to do so also have the opportunity to travel abroad.
