The Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences will offer a free course entitled Introduction to Cinematography in collaboration with ESCAC

The course, which will be free of charge, will take place from November 4 to December 16 on the Aretxabaleta campus of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University. The course was designed in collaboration with the Film and Audiovisual School of Catalonia (Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya, ESCAC).

The free course entitled Introduction to Cinematography will take place from November 4 to December 16 on the Aretxabaleta campus of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University. Classes will meet in person and will be held on the Aretxabaleta campus, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The course, which was designed in collaboration with the Film and Audiovisual School of Catalonia (Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya, ESCAC), will be free of charge and registration will be available on the ESCAC website.

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to cinematography, covering everything from technical and narrative fundamentals to the practical skills essential for working on set. No specific prior knowledge is required, but it is recommended that students have a basic familiarity with audiovisual language and the operation of cameras and lighting, as well as an aptitude for technical and creative teamwork. The methodology of the course combines theoretical and practical sessions.

Course objectives

The objectives of this course are to understand the role of the cinematographer in audiovisual narrative and in audiovisual production, to acquire fundamental technical skills in camera, light and optics, to develop a creative approach to solving visual and narrative problems in a shooting environment, to become familiar with the professional dynamics of working on set, and to integrate knowledge of digital workflow and post-production.

Free course

The course is free, however, a deposit of €150 is required. The deposit will be returned to the same account from which it was made once the course has been completed. A minimum of 80% attendance is required to have the deposit returned.

This course was organized by ESCAC in collaboration with Mondragon University’s Bachelor’s degree program in Audiovisual Communication, as part of the Fast Forward by ESCAC program created with European funds from the Next Generation program
