Mondragon University’s degree program in Audiovisual Communication has earned the Dual label from Unibasq, the Basque University System Quality Assurance Agency, and has begun to implement it this year. But the dual format is not the only improvement that that will take place this year. In addition to offering the dual option to its students, the program has redesigned several of its degree projects and has begun to offer two tracks to its students: Audiovisual Creation and Digital Communication.

Two cycles and two tracks

The degree in Audiovisual Communication is organized into two cycles. The first cycle comprises the 1st and 2nd years of study, and the second cycle comprises the 3rd and 4th.

The two years of the first cycle serve to introduce us to the world of communication so that we may learn more about the different areas of this wide world: internet, radio, television, film, written communication, etc., and work on disciplines such as photography, podcasts, graphics, and video surveillance, among others. In the second cycle, students must choose one of the two tracks: Audiovisual Creation or Digital Communication.

Track 1: Audiovisual Creation

In this track, all kinds of audiovisuals are made. Thus, it will be possible to become familiar with and carry out professional profiles in the audiovisual field, working on scriptwriting, production, direction, lighting, sound, graphics and/or editing.

Track 2: Digital Communication: Dual

This option specifically addresses professions in the digital field. This second track is associated with corporate communication in organizations, taking into account the importance of the audiovisual in these areas. In addition, students will work on developing knowledge related to digital marketing, the design of communication plans, product dissemination processes and event organization.

The dual model is underway

In the professionalization of future communicators, it is essential to focus on the development of professional skills and functions. Given this approach, it is essential that the knowledge and skills acquired in university studies be developed and put into practice in a professional context, since there are competencies specific to the profession that cannot be properly developed at the university and that must be developed in a real, professional scenario.

Dual training is based on the principle of complementarity between learning in an academic setting and learning in a professional environment. The main goal of the dual model is to learn through work, rather than working while studying. The relationship established in the dual model is based on an agreement signed by the three parties involved: the student, the company and the university.

The degree program in Audiovisual Communication had to meet three fundamental requirements, among others, to obtain the Dual label:

  • Paid dual model.
  • A minimum number of hours in the dual format, in this case, 1,064 hours during the two years in the company.
  • Internship and dual completion of the End-of-Degree Project (EDP).

In this first year of implementation of the dual model, our students in the degree program are working in the following organizations:
