Suicide protocol

Suicide protocol: prevention and intervention

The following is the protocol created by the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences for addressing suicidal behavior. Among other things, it specifies how to intervene when a member of the university community exhibits suicidal thoughts and/or behavior.

This protocol has four main objectives:

  1. To establish common guidelines for dealing with suicidal behavior risk situations in the university setting, including providing early detection, effective care and proactive monitoring for those in need
  2. To provide guidance for decision-making and evaluation in the interventions included in the protocol.
  3. To promote the assessment, treatment and appropriate monitoring of people at the university who have or may have suicidal behavior
  4. To facilitate and guide coordination between the Psychological Care Service (Arreta Psikologikorako Zerbitzua, APZ) and other services, such as the Suicide Commission, in order to optimize the integration of available resources and enable appropriate monitoring of people in a suicide situation, ensuring continuity of care.

This protocol forms part of both the secondary level of prevention (aimed at members of the Faculty who may be at risk for suicidal behavior) and the tertiary level of prevention (aimed at people who have attempted suicide or who are involved in prevention if a suicide has occurred).

This protocol applies to any and all members of the community.
