In accordance with Royal Decree 99/2011, the duration of the period of training in the case of full-time students is four years from the admission of the doctoral student to the programme until the presentation of the doctoral thesis. The CAPD may authorize an extension of another year, which could exceptionally be extended for a further year.
 

In the case of part-time students, training will last a maximum of seven years from the admission of the doctoral student to the programme until the presentation of the doctoral thesis. This may be extended by one year.
