Visits to Tekniker, Viralgen and BioGipuzkoa have allowed students to discover innovative projects and real applications of research and technology in the field of health.

The students of the Master's Degree in Biomedical Technologies at Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa have visited three leading organisations in the biomedical sector: Tekniker, Viralgen and BioGipuzkoa. The aim of the conference was to bring students closer to the reality of research, innovation and technological development applied to the field of health.
The first stop took place at the Tekniker technology centre. There, Jesús Alonso, coordinator of medical devices, together with Jone Fernández Lariz, former student of the master's degree, and Ibai Azpeitia, a student who is currently studying the master's degree in DUAL mode at Tekniker, presented the different projects, technologies and products that the centre develops for the biomedical sector. The visit allowed us to learn first-hand how the transfer of knowledge between research and industry materializes.
Later, the group visited Viralgen. Itsasne Arangoa, a former student of the master's degree, explained the work that the company does in the development of gene therapies for the treatment of rare diseases. The students were also able to learn about the manufacturing process of the viral vectors used in these therapies, as well as the relevance of data analysis for the monitoring and optimization of production processes.
The last visit was made to BioGipuzkoa. Sergio Cardoso, Technology Innovation Manager, together with Maider San Torcuato, Itxaso Calvano and Odei Bouzon, presented the mission and the main lines of activity of the health research institute. Its work focuses on promoting basic, epidemiological and clinical research, as well as promoting innovation in strategic areas such as neurosciences, oncology or ageing.
Thanks to these visits, the students have been able to learn about some of the main challenges and opportunities in the biomedical sector, gaining a better understanding of the importance of collaboration between research, technology and health to promote innovative solutions with a real impact on society.
