Throughout the academic year, engineering students at Mondragon Unibertsitatea make various visits to companies or entities related to their specialty. Taking the educational model based on practical learning as its axis, the objective of these visits is to see how what has been worked on in the classrooms is applied in reality.

In the case of the Degree in Biomedical Engineering, the students of the third year have been able to visit the operating rooms of the Arrasate hospital with the help of Iñigo Miranda, an engineer from the OSI Alto Deba. The objective of the visit was to learn about the degrees of freedom of operating tables in operating theatres and to analyse the possibilities of automating them, thus learning about important aspects related to the design and control of surgical tables.

Project

In the engineering programs at Mondragon Unibertsitatea, students develop a multidisciplinary practical project each semester related to all the subjects studied. In this semester's project, they will have to design and automate surgical tables for different interventions, so the visit to the hospital will be very useful for their application in the project.

In order to carry out this project, students must put into practice the knowledge worked on during the semester. Specifically, subjects such as the manufacture of medical equipment, mechanical design of medical equipment, technological medical equipment, control technologies and robotics, etc., have been worked on.

Thanks to the OSI Debagoiena and especially to Iñigo for all his explanations!
