The students of the Master's Degree in Biomedical Technologies have completed the second Learning Journey of the course and the evaluation has been very positive.
Students of the Master's Degree in Biomedical Technologies at Mondragon University have completed their second Learning Journey experience of the course. Earlier this year, they went to Madrid, and this time, their chosen destination was Barcelona.
Learning Journeys are learning trips organized by the master's teaching team that allow students to visit leading companies and organizations in the healthcare sector.
On the June 2025 Learning Journey, students were able to visit:
- Fenin: The Spanish Federation of Healthcare Technology Companies represents companies that manufacture, import, and distribute healthcare products that improve the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of diseases. During this visit, they were able to meet Pilar Navarro, the director of innovation at Fenin, who presented the healthcare product ecosystem in Catalonia.
- Hospital Vall D’Hebron: Vall D'Hebron Hospital is a leading hospital in Spain. During this visit, they were able to see the surgical suite led by Dr. Laura Romero, the hospital's surgical coordinator. During this visit, they were able to see the use of robotic technology to perform surgeries (the Da Vinci robot), as well as the medical imaging technology used in hybrid operating rooms. They then visited the clinical laboratories led by Dr. Roser Ferrer, head of the clinical biochemistry department. These automated laboratories perform a wide range of clinical analyses that are used to support decision-making in 70% of the diagnoses at Vall d'Hebron Hospital.
- Grifols: Grifols is a global healthcare company founded in 1909 and a leader in blood-derived medicine and transfusion medicine. During this visit, the Vice President of Healthcare Solutions at Grifols presented the company's history and its main products. The students then had the opportunity to visit Grifols Diagnostics and see firsthand the production of gel cards for blood typing. Finally, they were able to visit the plasma fractionation and dosing plant, where they learned the fundamentals of the plasmapheresis technique.
- Heecap: On the last day of this learning journey, they visited Heecap, a rapidly developing biomedical startup. During this visit, Laura Lizama, CEO and co-founder of the company, presented the electrical stimulation system for patients on mechanical ventilation, which aims to revolutionize the world of respiratory rehabilitation.
Three days full of learning and personal experiences that the students will fondly remember years from now.
Many thanks to all the organizations that have welcomed us. It has been a pleasure to learn about the work you do.
