In the BBF(Bilbao Berrikuntza Faktoria-Bilbao Innovation Factory) there are inhabitants who spend the whole year in the ecosystem and others who visit us at different times of the year. This is the case of the project Diateknia, winner of the last Africa Basque Challenge.

Ongi etorri, let´s meet them!

-Description of the project

At Diateknia, we concentrate on developing technical and sensibilisation solutions for diabetic people. In particular, the products will be developed for the Kenyan ecosystem.

-How was the team created? Process of the team

The members took part in the “Africa Basque Challenge” Programme, which theme was “Access to healthcare”.

We initially met the other countries participants through a series of offline discussions. Then a first physical meeting was carried out at Nairobi with all participants: a series of workshops and activities helped in knowing each other. With various subjects that were identified, linked to e.g. Water, Disability, Nutrition, the synergy of our team was built combining interests, technical, scientifical, innovative and nutrition competencies to solve issues around diabetes.

Before reaching the final week of the programme, we had another period of virtual exchange. That  period enabled us to gather and check information, which helped us in presenting our solutions.

-What can you give to BBF and what do you want to receive from BBF?

We are an open-minded team. We can help the BBF community in reaching out to international customers. We do have broad expertise in the team which can be beneficial to others. We are interested in developing collaborations with the BBF community and getting feedback and advice from the BBF community in order to avoid pitfalls and to be successful in our development. Finally the ecosystem at BBF promotes international development and collaborations. We are aware that some of the start-ups have the opportunity to present their business at various places around the World; it would be valuable for us to learn from them.

-How is your experience in Bilbao going?

It is very encouraging to see the various opportunities. Bilbao and the Basque Region has set an environment to facilitate entrepreneurship and start-ups. We had the opportunity to attend the B-Venture 2022 event at Palacio Euskalduna. We could present our solutions at the Diateknia stand and engage in discussions with the participants (start-ups, financial support agencies, banks) as well as listening to other start-ups and key-speakers presentations. This gave us some tips on how to present our solutions to larger audiences and the next steps we should consider for our future development.

-Any other message to Bilbao/Bizkaia/Basque Country innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem

We would like to welcome people from the BBF community to join our team. As a team that is multicultural and diversity centered, we are looking for someone who is passionate about health care and is very fluent in Spanish to help us with translations as we aim to take Diatekia to the next level. Our working space is on the BBF first floor.
