Tribolab 4.0

Plataforma Automatizada con Robótica Colaborativa e Inteligencia Artificial para la Tribología de Elementos de Máquina

Our industrial environment is evolving towards smarter, more automated, and more sustainable models, redefining the necessary technical skills. Technologies such as collaborative robotics, artificial intelligence, and cyber-physical systems are being integrated into plants and laboratories, demanding training aligned with Industry 4.0. In this context, the Tribolab 4.0 project, developed by Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa, has emerged. This automated platform for tribological testing incorporates collaborative robotics and artificial intelligence, aiming to modernize vocational training in the Basque Country. It automates critical tasks such as the handling and analysis of test specimens using machine vision and event-driven control, improving productivity, safety, and traceability, while also providing real-world scenarios for technical learning.

The project, funded by the Basque Government's Deputy Ministry of Education and promoted by TKNIKA, the Basque Country's Applied Vocational Training Research Center, will impact vocational training programs such as Industrial Automation and Robotics, Industrial Mechatronics, and the specialization in Digital Maintenance. It is aligned with strategies such as RIS3 Euskadi and the Basque Vocational Training Strategy. Companies in the sector will collaborate by providing materials and validation, ensuring knowledge transfer to the industrial sector. From a pedagogical perspective, this project fosters active learning methodologies, interdisciplinary work, and problem-solving in advanced technological environments where automation frees up time for higher value-added tasks. With a scalable and replicable approach, Tribolab 4.0 promotes specialized talent, educational innovation, and collaboration between educational institutions and companies.
