The lexicon is available on the website of UZEI, the Basque Terminology and Lexicography Centre, and aims to define and promote the terminology of project management in Basque
The field of project management has gained special relevance in recent years both in the industry and in the services sector. The work of planning, organising, optimising and controlling the actions of the projects represents a key to preventing the loss of competitiveness.
Mondragon Unibertsitatea and the University of the Basque Country have long responded to the need to promote the subject of project management. In addition to teaching the subject of Project Management in different degrees, they have also developed Master’s degrees in this field.
Nevertheless, the institutions, companies and universities involved in the matter have not established a unified terminology in Basque, and each has proposed and used its own terminology. This situation has made communication between the different agents of the project management difficult and has strengthened the tendency to resorting to terms in English instead of using Basque.
The objective of the Project Management Lexicon that has been published on the network is to define the basic vocabulary specialised in Basque employed by the agents operating in this field need in their activity and promote a standardised terminology in Basque.
A collaborative work
This work has been conducted in collaboration between Mondragon Unibertsitatea, the University of the Basque Country and PMI Euskadi Branch. Project Management Institute (PMI) offers certificates that guarantee knowledge and qualification, with most accepted standards worldwide in the field of project management.
The lexicon shas been prepared by UZEI, the Basque Terminology and Lexicography Centre, harmonising in its lexical proposal the contributions of the experts of the mentioned universities and organisations.
A multilingual lexicon
The Project Management Lexicon is a multilingual lexicon encompassing a total of 457 concepts in four languages (Basque, Spanish, French, and English), with their corresponding definition in Basque.
If this new lexicon achieves its purpose, the users, agents and professionals working in this field will find in it a useful tool to communicate consistently in Basque. It will also be a practical resource for students who specialise in this field in the future to work in Basque with full assurance.
