In the words of Arianne Kareaga, one of the coordinators of the KoopFabrika project and member of the LANKI Institute of Cooperative Studies, the project has two objectives: “First, to promote cooperative collective economy initiatives and for that purpose to provide both means and context; and second, to have an impact on the territory by promoting cooperative ecosystems.”

The achievements of the first three years of KoopFabrika are made evident in the large number of participants in the project: 165 people have received theoretical-practical training in social and cooperative entrepreneurship. Additionally, 45 socioeconomic projects have been established thanks to the project.

KoopFabrika offers different modes of participation; this year, two training courses have been organized, and enrollment in the program will now be possible at any time through their website (koopfabrika.eus). According to Leire Udabe, also a coordinator of KoopFabrika, “the objective is to develop a program that is adapted to the needs of each participant, keeping in mind the most appropriate moment for each.”

Various agents participate in this collaborative program: the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa, the OlatuKoop network, the City Councils of Beterri-Buruntza, the GEZKI Institute of Cooperative Law and Social Economics of the University of the Basque Country, and Mondragon University’s LANKI Institute of Cooperative Studies.
