During three full days in March the teams Blaze, Hagalaz, Khoda, Riven, Stamm and Tabia from MTA Bilbo, worked on leadership by listening and understanding the different realities that surround them in order to be able to reflect out of respect. This work was done through a process that combined reflection, action and co-creation.

One of the central activities of the programme were the intercultural tours provided by Diversitours through the San Francisco and Bilbao La Vieja neighbourhoods of Bilbao, an area with a significant story, past and present, of migrations and inter-cultural co-living. It was a chance to understand the current and historic realities in the less-trodden streets of the city.

Another highlight was the presence of Támara Clavería from the association Amuge who met all of the leadership week participants to speak about the work the association is doing to improve the situation of the gypsy people, with the focus on gypsy women. This gave participants the opportunity to understand and reflect on the prejudices that they might have in relation to this cultural group and highlighted actions that contribute to discrimination against gypsies.

Three of the team companies, Hagalaz, Riven and Stamm, of the second year, had the opportunity to participate in a workshop given by Mahmoud Assy of Eufonia Diversity about inclusive leadership. The workshop helped the participants to understand the privileges that people have simply due to their place of birth or other factors we take for granted, and the prejudices we might have towards other people. As well as this workshop, these three LEINN companies were divided into smaller groups to visit and work with three social entities that work with Bolunta. The themes covered were: connections with people experiencing social exclusion (Zubietxe), integration and interpersonal development for young people through the arts (Fundación Fidias), and better understanding of education through ecological and social concepts (Reciclanet).

As well as these activities, the team companies from the first year, Blaze, Khoda and Tabia, worked on respect and empathy in their teams speaking and working in workshops about the keys of dialogue and adaptive leadership.

On the last day the teams worked on a co-creation challenge, a “birth-giving” where the team companies of the first year had to develop a manifesto about safe space and empathy and the second year focussed on empathy and diversity.

Reflect and act in order to be.
