Today, MONDRAGON Corporation in Arrasate delivered the award for the best End-of-Course Project carried out in Basque. The winner of the prize is Ander Jauregi Goñi, a student of the Master’s Degree in Energy and Power Electronics from the Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, with the project “Design and development of a multiphase transformer” for IK-4 Ikerlan. Mondragon Unibertsitatea and MONDRAGON Corporation awarded him a prize of €1,500 in this seventh edition.

These awards were created at the initiative of the Basque Language Committee of MONDRAGON Corporation seven years ago in order to ensure that End-of-Course Projects carried out by the students of Mondragon Unibertsitatea in their access to the professional world are developed in Basque. The MONDRAGON Corporation had this challenge in its Strategic Plan and, in 2010, created a working group composed of people from both the Corporation and the Schools to launch this award. Thus, the jury composed of two representatives of each school and one representative of the Corporation analysed all the projects carried out in companies of the Corporation that have been submitted to the award.

In total, 198 projects have been carried out in the School of Business Studies, the Higher Polytechnic School and the School of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, 20 of which have been developed in Basque. All projects presented have had a high technical level, and the outstanding projects have been the best prepared in Basque.

The jury was composed of two people from each school (Eneko Bidegain and Karmele Perez, from HUHEZI; Rafael Altuna and Miriam Leibar, from Enpresagintza; Xabier Arrasate and Pedro Urteaga, from Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa) and one representative of MONDRAGON Corporation (Ander Etxeberria). After a thorough analysis of the projects, the jury agreed at the time of scoring them and selecting the winner.

Project title: Design and development of a multiphase transformer

Abstract:

The objective of the project is to design and develop a multiphase transformer. In the first place, an analysis of the current situation of this technology was carried out based on research publications in order to implement an adequate design. Through simulations, the criteria for its design and suitability were presented, with all of which, the selection of all the elements that make up the converter was justified. Then, the arrangement of the components was defined to achieve an adequate mechanical design. Taking into account the complete design of the converter, the interfaces for an adequate control and its implementation were defined. Finally, the results of the project were presented, and future lines of action were proposed.
