Mondragon Unibertsitatea, together with the universities of the Basque university system, EHU, Deusto, and EUNEIZ, have drafted a manifesto that was made public today, December 3, International Basque Language Day.

December 3 should be a day to raise awareness about the Basque language.

In order to think about where we are starting from and where we want to go, it is essential to remember where we come from.

For this reason, the universities of the Basque university system wish to recognize the tireless work of the people who have made it possible for the Basque language to reach our classrooms and research spaces. The awareness and work of thousands of mothers and fathers, the indispensable role of Euskaltegis, the contribution of sociocultural agents, as well as the work carried out by institutions and popular movements to Basquify the education system, have allowed the Basque-speaking community to gain hundreds of thousands of new speakers in half a century.
