Ten international students spent a week with us to learn first-hand about the Mondragon Cooperative Experience. Students in the Master’s degree program in Cooperative Enterprise and Social Business Management and in the course entitled Keys to the Cooperative Experience, both offered by the LANKI Institute of Co-operative Research, came to the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences in the first week of April.

Starting at the Faculty, the students visited cooperatives in different fields, where they met with members who work in these cooperatives on a daily basis. Students both in the Master’s degree program in Cooperative Enterprise and Social Business Management and in the course on Keys to the Cooperative Experience had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the Mondragon Cooperative Experience as part of their curriculum.

The first sessions were held on the Eskoriatza campus of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences, where the participants had the opportunity to share ideas with members of the Friends of Arizmendiarrieta Association. Next, they plunged into the daily life of an industrial cooperative during their visit to Copreci and, during their meeting with the Fagor Group, they discussed social transformation, sustainability and territorial development. They focused on sustainability and also examined the financial sector with Laboral Kutxa and Lagun Aro, and learned about the experiences of Ulma Packaging, Eroski and GSR. They also visited Arantzazu and the Gomiztegi Shepherd School. In addition, they attended various meetings at the Mondragon Management and Cooperative Development Center in Otalora, and learned about the Coop57 and Koopfabrika initiatives.

The group of students from the Master’s degree program in Cooperative Enterprise and Social Business Management also visited Bilbao Berrikuntza Faktoria, Bilbao As Fabrik, LKS, Krean and the Mondragon Assembly.
