Mondragon Unibertsitatea and the Somorrostro Centre organised on 26 February a conference aimed at Biscay-based companies with the aim of sharing the dual model of the Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, to be launched by both entities in the next academic year, on the new Zorrotzaurre campus. The purpose of this meeting is to create a network of collaborators to establish alliances, which are crucial for the university to develop successfully the dual modes and to respond to the needs of companies. This is the first degree in Engineering of Mondragon Unibertsitatea to be completed entirely in the dual mode (all students of 3rd and 4th years study and work in companies) and is the first engineering course to be given by the university in Bilbao.

The day will be held at the Somorrostro Training Center, Muskiz, between 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM.

Conference programme:

  • Welcome I Javier Laiseca (Director of the Somorrostro Training Centre)
  • Presentation of the Somorrosotro Centre – Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa collaboration agreement I Carlos García (General Coordinator of MGEP)
  • Mechatronics Engineering and DUAL University Training I Nekane Errasti (Engineering Coordinator of MGEP)
  • Roundtable: The vision of the company I Representatives of the companies ITP Aero and Ingeteam
  • Appetisers and networking

Mechatronics Engineering

This degree is aimed at both students of higher education training cycles and secondary school students, but with different itineraries. Students from training courses attend 3 years of the university degree, which, based on the competencies acquired in previous studies, will have an equivalent recognition to one academic year, while secondary school students will study for 4 years.

This is a dual degree, in which competencies defined for the graduate profile are developed and acquired by combining training in the classroom with practices in the company on a part-time basis starting in the third year. The degree enables students with a multidisciplinary profile, combining fields of knowledge related to mechanics, management, electronics, computer science, and industrial automation.

Leaders in dual training

Mondragon Unibertsitatea is a pioneering and referential university in the study-work alternation, having been applied for more than 50 years. Currently, it is still the leading Basque university in dual training, offering 17 dual degrees (10 undergraduate and 7 Master’s degrees). In the past year, alone, 30% of students of the 2nd year in engineering degrees attended a dual mode course. This percentage rises to 55% in the case of students from the 3rd year and to 100% for those in the 4th year (in the case of Mechatronics Engineering, 100% of students in 3rd and 4th years are in the dual mode).
