The Science, Technology and Health research group of Mondragon University, ZiTeO, will lead the STEMotiv project for the second year, and will measure student motivation for and interest in STEM subjects. This is, in fact, the main objective of the STEMotiv project: to promote STEM education and STEM studies by students, especially girls, and to provide the means to improve the skills necessary for that purpose. In this second year of the project, which was obtained in competition, the group will provide continuity to the research work started last year and will expand the training of teachers of STEM subjects.

To analyze the data obtained in this research, the group will use Machine Learning and Big Data, through which they aim to assess the effectiveness of STEM projects and dynamics commonly used to promote STEM motivation and interest among students. In addition, the main addition this year is the study of the needs and perceptions of teachers regarding STEM projects, so that training sessions adapted to education professionals may be offered.

This continuation of the STEMotiv project will last one year. During this period, Mondragon University researchers will adjust the STEM tool first to measure student motivation and interest, and then to measure student motivation and interest before and after the execution of STEM projects in schools in Gipuzkoa. Furthermore, training sessions will be designed and developed, and then adjusted to the needs of teaching staff.

The Vicomtech Technology Center’s group for Data Intelligence for Energy and Industrial Processes and Ikaslan Gipuzkoa, the Association of Public Vocational Training Centers, will work together with the researchers from the Science, Technology and Health research group of Mondragon University.

In the current 2021-2022 academic year, the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences has acquired eight competitive research projects.
