The group of students in the second year of the Mondragon Unibertsitatea Degree in Mechatronics Engineering visited the facilities of the Tekniker research centre. Getting to know the technological laboratories they have, as well as some of the research projects they are working on, has allowed the students to get closer to the reality of the market and to visualise their professional future.

During the visit, the students were able to experience first-hand the combination of reality and virtual reality thanks to a simulation that is being carried out in the COGILE project. The specific simulation that the students tried out was the task of inspecting an aeroplane aileron, and they worked with a robot. This is a research project funded by the Basque Government's Elkartek programme in which Tekniker and the Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, among other entities, are participating. Cogile aims to introduce intelligent industrial systems to the operator through technologies such as Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality and Augmented Reality and adapts them to the physical, sensory-motor and cognitive abilities of the worker to maximise their potential.

These types of visits to companies are part of the academic programme as they allow students to learn about real applications of subjects they have seen in the classroom. It also allows them to get first-hand knowledge of business activity and to visualise themselves doing an internship or final degree project in such a company, something that the students value very positively.

Dual training

Mondragon Unibertsitatea is closely linked to companies and offers a very practical training, being the leading university in degrees with dual program. In this context, Tekniker collaborates with the Polytechnic School of Mondragon Unibertsitatea to offer internships and final projects aligned to technical specialties. Recently, some students of the Degree in Mechatronics Engineering have combined their studies and developed their final project in Tekniker, so that the technology centre has also invited this group of third-year students to join its team in the future.
