This is the second year that the summer Communication Camps have been offered. Why?

Last year we offered the camps for the first time with very positive results. All the young participants emphasized that it was very dynamic, participatory and fun, that they had a great time.

Who is it for?

The camps are aimed at young people in their sophomore or junior year of high school. Young people between 15 and 17 years old.

What will they do during the Communication Camps?

Our young participants will have the opportunity to work on the skills that may be necessary to be communicators. They’ll learn some keys to acting in front of the camera, they’ll make recordings and edit videos taken with cell phones, work on photojournalism, record podcasts... All in a fun way, since we mustn’t forget that this is an open summer camp and the young people come to have fun.

Which communication experts will participate this year?

We’ll have Gaztea announcer Ainhoa Vitoria, social networks expert Alex Padilla, and Goiena journalist Xabier Urzelai. In addition, Mondragon University instructors and Goiena professionals will be supervisors and coordinators.

Two sessions will be offered in July...

Yes, the first two weeks of July: the first session from July 4 to 8, and the second from July 11 to 15. Monday to Friday mornings, from 9:00 to 1:30. During the breaks, a lunch will be served on the Aretxabaleta campus. The groups will have a maximum of 15 participants.

What do people need to do to register?

We’ve created a website where you can find all the information and the registration form. If you have any questions or want further information, you can call or write to 600 02 27 20 (Whatsapp and Telegram) or write to komunikaziocampusa@mondragon.edu.

How long is registration open?

Until June 17, and the price is 125 euros.

The camps are open to the whole Basque Country...

The Mondragon University campus in Aretxabaleta is a model in communication in the Basque Country, and the Goiena Communication Group is the most important group in Basque regional media. We believe these camps should attract young people from all over the Basque Country.

There aren't many summer camps that focus on communication...

There’s one in Catalonia, organized by the newspaper Ara, that’s about journalism. But in ours we offer the opportunity to become familiar with the general profile of a communicator: journalism, television presentation, radio broadcasting... The participants will make video recordings, do photography, make podcasts, generate digital content...

Where did the idea for the Communication Camps come from?

It seemed to us that Mondragon University and the Goiena Communication Group, which are two of the best-known entities in the Alto Deba region and have worked on common projects and work in communication, had the opportunity to create specialized summer camps for young people. We’re experts in communication and we have experience in education and the media. In addition, we have the necessary physical space and materials – on the Audiovisual campus in Aretxabaleta and at the Goiena facilities in Arrasate – which can be adapted to the needs of these types of activities.

What are these camps like?

The special features of these summer camps will be contents linked to the interests of young people. In fact, usually summer camps are offered for the littlest kids in the house, but here teenagers will also have the chance to have fun with topics they’re interested in. Today, young people have an innate passion for communication. They make videos and consume information on different channels and social networks all the time. It’s a topic that’s close to their heart and they associate it with leisure, but perhaps they’re not aware that it can be part of their future professional career.

Will the camps have technical and human resources from both organizations?

Yes. Both on Mondragon University’s Aretxabaleta campus and at Goiena we have professional materials so people can work as communicators: video editing equipment, cameras, sets for television shows, radio studios... The camps will be held in Aretxabaleta, but we’ll also visit Goiena.
