The AERIS project prevails in the challenge posed by Familia Martínez and the Fracta proposal obtains a second prize. More than 1,000 students and more than 200 projects have participated in this edition.

A group of students from Mondragon Unibertsitatea, belonging to Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa, has won the first prize in the XVII National Awards for Design and Sustainability in Packaging, within the challenge posed by the company Familia Martínez. In addition, another team from the university has been recognized with a second prize in the same challenge.
These awards, organised by the Cluster for Innovation in Packaging, bring together university students and design schools from all over Spain every year to respond to real challenges posed by companies in the sector. In the 2026 edition, more than 1,000 students from 34 universities and design schools participated, presenting more than 200 projects.
The challenge proposed by Familia Martínez consisted of designing packaging solutions adapted to airfryer use, exploring new formats and consumer experiences aligned with new market trends.
The first prize went to AERIS, a project developed by the students Ane Pelayo, Garazi Portillo and Yaiza Zuazo. The proposal proposes a modular and divisible packaging system that turns the packaging itself into an active part of the cooking process, improving functionality and the user experience.
Likewise, the Fracta project, developed by Iñaki Aldazabal, Saioa Pérez, Amaia Resano and Lorea Zaballos, has won a second prize. The proposal consists of a container divided into two independent compartments that allows different foods to be organized and heated within the same container.
This recognition highlights the innovative capacity of Mondragon Unibertsitatea students in areas such as design, sustainability and the development of solutions applied to real industry needs, also strengthening the connection between university and business.
