The Minister for Science, Universities, and Innovation, José Ignacio Pérez Iglesias, has officially opened the 2025-2026 academic year at Mondragon University.

Mondragon Unibertsitatea celebrated the opening of the 2025-2026 academic year today at the Aretxabaleta campus in Huhezi.
To mark the faculty’s 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2026, the Aretxabaleta campus was chosen as the venue for the event.
José Ignacio Pérez Iglesias, Minister of Science, Universities, and Innovation, officially opened the academic year. Previous speakers included: Idoia Peñacoba, General Secretary of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, who presented the academic report for the 2024-2025 academic year; Dr. Nekane Arratibel and Dr. Letizia García, from the research group on Basque Language, Culture, Language, and Identity at the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences at Mondragon Unibertsitatea, who gave the inaugural lecture entitled “50 years of HUHEZI's journey from the Basque language: lessons learned and challenges”; and Vicente Atxa, rector of Mondragon University, who gave the inaugural lecture for the academic year. In his speech, the rector emphasized the importance of the event, highlighting that today marks the renewal of a fundamental commitment to higher education: a commitment to students and, in general, to society.
Also present at the event were Bakartxo Tejeria, President of the Basque Parliament; Xabier Ezeizabarrena, President of the General Assembly of Gipuzkoa; Garikoitz Iturbe, Mayor of Aretxabaleta; the rectors of Deusto and EUNEIZ; representatives of the University of the Basque Country; former rectors of Mondragon Unibertsitatea; Xabier Egibar, president and workers; and Pello Rodríguez, president of the Mondragón Corporation, among others.
