Mondragon University and Egibide sign an agreement to offer the first Engineering course in Vitoria-Gasteiz

Mondragon Unibertsitatea and Egibide have signed a collaboration agreement to jointly develop training activities in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Thanks to this alliance, from the 2027-2028 academic year, students from Álava interested in studying Engineering at Mondragon Unibertsitatea will be able to take the first year at the Egibide-Jesús Obrero facilities, without having to travel outside their usual environment.
The new offer will be aimed at both students from Baccalaureate and higher level training cycles, with itineraries adapted to their previous training. Initially, 80 places will be available distributed in two groups, one in Basque and the other in Spanish, and the classes will be taught by teachers from both institutions.
One of the main novelties of the agreement is the possibility that students from certain vocational training cycles can complete their engineering studies in three years, depending on the degree of origin and the degree chosen. To this end, recognition of up to 60 ECTS credits is contemplated. For their part, students from Baccalaureate will complete their studies in four years.
A commitment to the connection between Vocational Training and the University
The agreement was formalised on 8 October at the Jesús Obrero campus in Egibide, with the participation of Albert Verges Vidal, president of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Fundación Diocesanas-Jesús Obrero Fundazioa (Egibide); Xabier Egibar, president of the Governing Council of Mondragon Unibertsitatea; and Iker Alberdi, president of the Governing Council of Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa.
This collaboration reinforces the commitment of both institutions to connect Vocational Training and university studies, facilitating the training continuity of students and responding to the needs of technical and technological professionals from Alava companies.
The initiative is also part of the process of redesigning the Engineering degrees of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, which seeks to reinforce the fundamentals of engineering from the first year and facilitate the incorporation of students from different training itineraries.
Dual training and collaboration with companies in Álava
Beyond the academic offer, the agreement contemplates new ways of collaboration to promote dual training and encourage students to develop their final degree projects in companies in Álava.
Both institutions have a joint network of more than 1,500 collaborating companies and institutions, which will strengthen the relationship between the educational field and the business fabric of the territory, as well as facilitate the incorporation of technical-technological talent into companies during the training process itself.
The agreement also includes the development of specialised continuing training actions for professionals, the study of new postgraduate proposals linked to the strategic sectors of Álava and the Basque Country, and the promotion of research and knowledge transfer projects.
With this alliance, Mondragon Unibertsitatea and Egibide reinforce their commitment to the training of qualified professionals, collaboration between educational institutions and the development of the talent demanded by the business fabric of Álava.
