The T-LED initiative, promoted together with the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), will adapt and develop eight joint degree programmes within the framework of the future Joint European Degree Label, strengthening dual education, international mobility and collaboration with the business sector.
Mondragon Unibertsitatea, through the European university alliance EU4Dual, is participating as the lead institution in the T-LED (Testing Labour-Oriented European Degrees) project, an initiative funded by the Erasmus+ programme that has been selected by the European Commission to contribute to the development of the future Joint European Degree Label, the new European label that will recognise official degree programmes jointly designed and delivered by universities from different countries. The project is one of 14 European initiatives selected to test this new model of joint degrees.
Over the next three years, T-LED will bring together universities and organisations from fourteen countries with the aim of adapting four existing joint degree programmes and developing four new ones, at bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. The initiative will combine the expertise of OpenEU, coordinated by the UOC in the field of open and digital education, with the dual education model and close collaboration with companies that characterise EU4Dual, led by Mondragon Unibertsitatea.
The project aims to move towards a more flexible, inclusive and socially responsive European educational offer that is closely aligned with labour market needs. To achieve this, it will promote online, dual and hybrid programmes that facilitate the international mobility of an increasingly diverse student body, especially those who combine their studies with professional activity or other responsibilities. It will also strengthen the participation of companies and organisations in the design and development of degree programmes, reinforcing the connection between universities and their socio-economic environment.
According to Jon Altuna, Academic Vice-Rector of Mondragon Unibertsitatea and coordinator of the EU4Dual alliance, “this initiative enables our institutions to highlight the importance of involving companies and organisations in the design and development of university degree programmes, while also moving towards European recognition of this collaborative model.”
Among the degree programmes to be adapted to the new European label is the Master's Degree in Digital and Sustainable Manufacturing Engineering, coordinated by Mondragon Unibertsitatea, with its first edition scheduled for autumn 2026. In addition, the project includes the design of new programmes in strategic areas such as sustainability, health, industrial transformation and digitalisation, helping to address some of Europe's key challenges.
Through this initiative, Mondragon Unibertsitatea reinforces its commitment to the construction of the European Higher Education Area and to the development of international, dual and innovative education based on collaboration between universities, companies and organisations to address the challenges of the future.
