This morning, the Second Analysis of Dual University Education in Spain 2025 was presented at the Bertelsmann Space in Madrid.
This analysis, carried out by the Bertelsmann Foundation in conjunction with the Conference of Social Councils of Spanish Universities with the participation of Mondragon Unibertsitatea and the Knowledge and Development Foundation, has shown that Mondragon Unibertsitatea leads the way in dual university education in Spain, offering 29 dual degrees and master's degrees.
The Basque Country has positioned itself as a benchmark in Dual University Education, both for its long history and for the volume and quality of its current offering. The report also points out that 50% of universities in Spain offer some form of dual degree and that since the first edition of this study, this offering has increased by 12 percentage points.
Unlike curricular internships, in Dual University Training, the collaborating company or entity participates alongside the university in developing part of the curriculum, remuneration is mandatory, and the time students spend training at the company or entity is longer than in internships. In this way, the direct connection between students and the business world makes this group better equipped to face the challenges of social, technological, and economic transformations in the labor market.
Currently, 11 of the 17 autonomous communities offer dual university studies, and as we have mentioned, the Basque Country leads this ranking by far in terms of the number of dual degrees it offers.
The report makes special mention of Mondragon Unibertsitatea for its early commitment to this model (in 1966) and for its current leadership in the European alliance EU4Dual.
