The FATECO project, funded by the European Union and led by the Higher Polytechnic School of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, began its journey on 1 June, aiming to improve the fatigue performance of automotive components through innovative, environmentally friendly finishing operations.

The kick-off meetings of the European project were held at the Mondragon Unibertsitatea facilities on 27 and 28 June. The event served to bring together representatives of participating companies such as Sidenor, Samputensilli, UNIBO, ENISE, CRF and Mondragon Unibertsitatea and define an action plan to facilitate compliance with the established objectives.

Proposals of the FATECO project

The improvement of vehicle safety is a priority for the European Union. The improvement of the performance of the components reduces the probability of accidents caused by failures of these components.

In this context, the FATECO project aims to improve fatigue and tribological performance of automotive transmission parts through optimised surface integrity, achieved through innovative finishing techniques. In addition, some of these techniques will allow the elimination of lubricants, resulting in a 100% ecological process.

Additionally, an automatic learning approach will be developed, capable of predicting surface integrity and fatigue and tribological behaviour based on the input variables.
