These are some of the questions addressed by a study carried out by MIK, MONDRAGON’s Management Research Center linked to the Faculty of Business at Mondragon Unibertsitatea, with the support and funding of the Department of Economic Promotion and Strategic Projects of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. The outcome is a Roadmap for Gipuzkoa’s Territorial Talent Ecosystem.

The project, developed over the past year, combined an analysis of international trends, a quantitative study involving 150 companies from the region, qualitative interviews with clusters, business associations, and educational agents, as well as a comprehensive review of best practices. The result is a practical and shared roadmap that identifies seven major strategic challenges for the future of talent in Gipuzkoa, with concrete proposals for all stakeholders: companies, clusters, educational agents, and public institutions.

“This roadmap was born with the intention of being useful for action: it provides clear guidelines, adapted to the territory, and focused on collaboration. It is not just a diagnosis, but an invitation to transform,” highlights the People and Talent research team at MIK.

Among the main challenges identified are the need to professionalize people management, anticipate generational change, improve Gipuzkoa’s positioning to attract talent, and strengthen the connection between education and employment. The guide proposes concrete actions for each of these areas, along with monitoring indicators and inspiring examples already being implemented in other regions and/or organizations.
