Mondragon Universitatea Faculty of Engineering and the DYMAT association organized the 28th edition of their annual Technical Meeting at the Bilbao AS Fabrik campus from September 10th to 12th.

For over 40 years, the DYMAT association has promoted research in the field of dynamic behavior of materials and its applications. To this end, it organizes conferences where researchers, industry professionals, and experts from around the world exchange knowledge, strengthen collaborations, and shape the future of this sector.

This 28th edition, in collaboration with Mondragon Unibertsitatea, focused on the dynamic behavior of materials such as metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites applied to manufacturing processes. More specifically, it explored their responses to a wide range of industrial manufacturing techniques, including sheet metal forming, forging, machining, and additive manufacturing.

Attendees' contributions ranged from experimental techniques to modeling and simulations, including real-life industrial applications of research advances, fostering debate on the latest innovations and technological advances in this field.

The Technical Meeting began with the opening ceremony, followed by a presentation by Professor Lander Galdos of Mondragon Unibertsitatea. The second part of the day continued with a presentation by Dr. Yessine Ayed of ENSAM. In between, four sessions took place in which experts from across Europe presented their research in this field.

The second day began with presentations by Alberto Blanco, Ekaitz Ispizua, and Andoni Agirre from Gestamp. After four more sessions throughout the day, the meeting concluded with the DYMAT General Assembly. The Technical Meeting concluded with two more sessions after a day opened by a presentation by Professor Yannis P. Korkolis of TU Dortmund.

A key meeting for multiple sectors

As manufacturing processes evolve to meet demands for greater efficiency, environmental sustainability, and precision, understanding the behavior of materials under dynamic conditions is essential. Materials such as metals, polymers, and composites exhibit unique characteristics during high-speed deformation processes, including strain rate sensitivity, thermal effects, and microstructure and damage evolution.

These behaviors must be accurately captured and modeled to improve the performance and reliability of advanced manufacturing systems, including those in the automotive, aeronautical, energy, bioengineering, and tooling sectors.

The partnership between Mondragon Unibertsitatea and DYMAT

The choice of the Bilbao AS Fabrik campus as the venue for this latest edition of the DYMAT Technical Meeting is no coincidence. The relationship between the association and Mondragon Unibertsitatea dates back several years, thanks to these meetings where the university has presented its research.

This is an area in which Mondragon Unibertsitatea has a long history, thanks to the fact that several research groups at the Faculty of Engineering address these topics from different perspectives.
