The journal InpAkta Ikerlanen Akta – Journal of Research for Social Impact was presented on February 8 in an event held at the Bizkaia Aretoa of the University of the Basque Country. University of the Basque Country Rector Eva Ferreira, Mondragon University Rector Vicente Atxa; University of Deusto Rector Juan José Etxeberria, BRTA General Director Rikardo Bueno Zabalo, and Ikerbasque researcher from the University of the Basque Country and InpAkta Editor-in-Chief Ugo Mayor took part in the event.

As explained by Ugo Mayor, the journal’s editor-in-chief, InpAkta will include research works in all fields of knowledge, provided that these studies, in Mayor’s words, “serve to help us face the challenges we have as a society.” The journal will accept scientific articles in Basque or in English. Additionally, lnpAkta will include an informative summary that will serve to convey the relevance of the research in question. The latter texts, which will be a single page in length, will be available in the three official languages of the Basque Country. Issue zero of the journal includes 20 studies, and it is expected that the journal will publish two issues a year, starting in 2025.

For her part, University of the Basque Country Rector Eva Ferreira emphasized that the journal InpAkta “will fill a void. With all the rigor of a scientific publication, in addition to building the international range of the research work carried out in the Basque Country, InpAkta will be a tool that will build and consolidate bridges among the research communities of our territories.” Ferreira added that this project “will enrich technical Basque, as it is the only scientific publication that offers research works in both English and Basque.”

Mondragon University Rector Vicente Atxa highlighted the journal’s “diversity of promoters and mission to address different issues.” In Atxa’s opinion, “reflecting in depth on all these diverse topics and investigating the relationships that exist among them will help us to respond more appropriately to the challenges faced by a society as complex as the one we live in.”

In the words of University of Deusto Rector Juan José Etxeberria, the journal was born with the mission of being “a tool to develop the critical spirit of our society.” Etxeberria added that InpAkta aims to go “beyond academia” and that it will “make a special effort in outreach work.”

Finally, BRTA General Director Rikardo Bueno highlighted that InpAkta will be a useful tool to “improve decision-making by social agents, including institutions,” and that the journal is also “a reflection of the strength and collaboration of the Basque research network.” He also added that InpAkta demonstrates that “Basque too is a working language in research and in technology.”
