Students from the Master's program in Industrial Engineering visited Alkar's automated warehouse in Amorebieta

Mondragon Unibertsitatea's Engineering programs are closely aligned with the needs of businesses. Therefore, each year, every group of students visits companies several times and has the opportunity to see firsthand how the material they've learned in their courses is applied.
In December, the group from the Master's Program in Industrial Engineering at Mondragon Unibertsitatea made one of these visits to Alkar Automotive. Specifically, they visited the automated and intelligent warehouse they have in Amorebieta, where they have integrated the most advanced technologies, making it one of the leading warehouses in the Basque Country.
The warehouse uses technology developed by Ulma Handling Systems. The facility handles the consolidation of various products manufactured in both Europe and Asia, as well as order picking and distribution. Despite facing significant technological challenges, the project is now a success story in the Basque Country.
The visit was very well received by the students, as it allowed them to see how several of the topics covered in the master's program (mainly industrial transport and handling) are applied. They saw how different types of storage are managed, the various load units, how equipment maintenance is carried out, how to implement cutting-edge technology, and more.
The Master in Industrial Engineering at Mondragon Unibertsitatea is taught on two campuses (Mondragon and Galarreta Orona Ideo) and both groups had the opportunity to visit Alkar's automated warehouse.
Many thanks to our colleagues at Ulma Handling Systems and Alkar Automotive who participated in the visits.
