The Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University and the Arrasate Rugby Team (ART) have signed a collaboration agreement to support the players, coaches, trainers, and families of the inclusive Arrasate Rugby Team. The event was held on the Eskoriatza campus, and enjoyed the participation of ART Director Ramón Barrutia and Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences Dean Nagore Ipiña.

This cooperative project aims to develop and implement guidance methods and tools that can help the members of the inclusive ART team. Speaking for the Arrasate Rugby Team, Ramón Barrutia states that “there are a large number of players with disabilities on the teams: Down syndrome, different levels of autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, and other unspecified disabilities. These players need expert personnel to support them and to implement guidance methods and tools for the players, trainers, coaches, and families, as well as follow-up tools.”

Arrasate Rugby Team: a social sports team

The Arrasate Rugby Team seeks to create groups that can enjoy playing rugby in positive and fun environments that aim for team members to achieve individual cognitive development within a collective sport that is both physical and relational. That is, a holistic development together with a boost toward the pride of belonging, to make friends.

The Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences: an opportunity to develop activities

Nagore Ipiña, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences, emphasizes that “the agreement that we have just signed with the Arrasate Rugby Team will allow us to carry out significant actions both academically and personally for the students.” She adds that, in addition, the project presents the opportunity to carry out the projects that students in the Faculty have developed in ART. One example of this is the learning service that various students have provided this year in ART.
