Mondragon Unibertsitatea today hosted one of the finals of the FIRST LEGO league international educational tournament held simultaneously in the Basque Country, as it is (for the third year in a row) one of the three venues co-organising this tournament in the Basque Country together with Innobasque.

320 students between 6 and 16 years of age gathered at Mondragon Unibertsitatea Goi Eskola Politeknikoa to respond to the challenge that the organisers of the FIRST LEGO League have proposed this year: innovation in logistics and freight transport, which they have called Cargo Connect.

The 40 teams that took part in the tournament came from 11 schools in Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia and Araba.

Children between 6 and 9 years old participated in the Explore category and participants between 10 and 16 years old competed in the Challenge category, from which two winning teams will participate in the national final on 2 April.

The two winning teams were:

  • Arizmendi-Ikerlan 4 of Arizmendi Ikastola (Arrasate)
  • Sanfitek Land of San Fidel Ikastola (Gernika-Lumo)

In this morning's tournament, there were 68 volunteers from 10 organisations that are also sponsors of the event (Ikerlan, Elecnor, Ideko, Laboral Kutxa, ULMA, Maier, Garay, Leartiker, Fagor Arrasate and Mondragon Unibertsitatea).
