BAC (Barcelona Circular), promoted through a public-private collaboration between the Barcelona City Council, via Barcelona Activa, and the Faculty of Business Studies of Mondragon Unibertsitatea and TeamLabs, is scheduled to be inaugurated on October 30.

The new facility, located in the Bon Pastor neighborhood, will have four clear lines of activity: promotion of entrepreneurship and new business models, business competitiveness and innovation, talent and training, and community connection.

The launch of BAC (Barcelona Circular) represents an opportunity for the Faculty of Business Studies of Mondragon Unibertsitatea to actively contribute to the transformation of the economic model through a strategic city project. BAC, located in the Bon Pastor neighborhood, is being developed through a public-private collaboration between the Barcelona City Council, via Barcelona Activa, the Faculty of Business Studies of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, part of MONDRAGON, and TeamLabs.

BAC will become the second physical space for specialized economic development in the city, following the opening last May of Barcelona XRLAB, a hub focused on the creative industries. The infrastructure, operating as a lab for entrepreneurship and innovation in the circular economy, aims to promote the digital transformation of industry, as well as to support the implementation of new, more sustainable circular economy models that generate a positive territorial impact, contribute to the creation and attraction of talent, and help generate qualified employment.

The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, emphasized that “we continue to strengthen economic activity hubs to diversify our economy and accelerate the growth and positioning of strategic sectors in the city,” adding that this is “a strategy designed with a public-private collaboration approach, a formula capable of exponentially multiplying the positive impact of public policies.”

The new facility is located in the industrial unit on Ciutat d’Asunción Street, no. 16, in the Bon Pastor neighborhood (Sant Andreu). It has 3,400 m² distributed over three floors and is structured around four main lines of activity:

  • Promotion of entrepreneurship and new business models, with incubation and acceleration programs.
  • Business competitiveness and innovation, through innovation and prototyping programs in the digital fabrication workshop.
  • Talent and training, with a highly practical training program tailored to the needs of the ecosystem.
  • Community connection, becoming a space for collaboration and open innovation among the various agents of the ecosystem and industry.

Redefining the city’s economic map

The economic activity hubs are physical infrastructures designed to accelerate the growth and positioning of the city’s strategic sectors, while also acting as true magnets for talent, entrepreneurship, investment, and new economic activity. All of them have been designed and implemented with a public-private collaboration approach, contributing to the definition of a new economic map for the city by valuing existing assets and creating new ones.

As of October 30, the city's map will include Barcelona Circular, focused on the circular economy and industrial transformation.
