On December 1, the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University will hold the second annual conference on Basque and interculturality in educational communities. Good practices and new contributions. At the conference, which will take place on the Eskoriatza campus, participants will share their experiences from the last two years in the educational communities of different municipalities that belong to the Commonwealth of Basque-Speaking Municipalities (Udalerri Euskaldunen Mankomunitatea, UEMA).

The conference will take place in Room D.0.3 of the Dorleta building on the Eskoriatza campus. The event will be held in Basque, but will also be offered in Spanish via Telegram. The event on December 1 will be open to the public, but interested parties must register in advance.

  • Registration: Second annual conference on Basque and interculturality in educational communities. Good practices and new contributions.

At the event, participants will share the journey and the actions that are being promoted by this project in several Basque municipalities that belong to UEMA, with the aim of continuing to live in Basque, guaranteeing the access to information and participation of immigrant parents who do not know Basque, and expanding the relationship and intercultural vision both in schools and in the towns. Building a bridge between the Basque language and interculturality is a significant challenge today for Basque municipalities and their schools. But not only for them; the reflections and experiences that will be heard throughout the conference can also be useful for other towns and schools.

Thus, among other experiences, the participants will share, for example, the format and dynamics of their schools’ start-of-year meetings, how they have changed and what influence these changes have had; and what point of view the parents have and what role they play in the different activities that are organized in schools to combine the Basque language and interculturality.

During the conference, some of the good and new practices carried out in the last two years will be presented, for which the leaders who are promoting these processes and participating in them will take the floor.

This academic year, the initiative has been extended to thirteen other locations. To respond to this expansion, collaboration between the educational communities of the municipalities, municipal agents, UEMA, and the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University continues to be of great importance.
