Bringing jazz closer to younger generations and creating new meeting spaces around live music. This is the purpose of Jazzfera, a project driven by young entrepreneurs from Bilbao that is entering its second edition after attracting around 2,000 people during its first year.

Behind the initiative is Kyros, a team of third-year entrepreneurs from the LEINN degree at Mondragon Unibertsitatea, who have turned their interest in culture and music into an entrepreneurial project with an impact on their local community.

Jazzfera was created with a clear challenge: to contribute to the generational renewal of jazz and bring the genre closer to new audiences, particularly younger generations. After a first season featuring around ten concerts, the project is now taking another step forward by increasing the frequency of its events.

A second season with more events

The second edition of Jazzfera will kick off on 26 September at La Terminal FICC in Zorrotzaurre, from 7:30 p.m. The event will feature live music, a jam session and a DJ set.

One of the main new features of the season is the increased frequency of events: Jazzfera will move from monthly events to a programme taking place every three weeks. Five events have already been confirmed at La Terminal until the end of the year —26 September, 17 October, 7 and 28 November and 12 December— together with a special edition at Bilborock on 23 January 2027.

The project aims to maintain a close and participatory format, combining jazz performances, improvisation and spaces for people to meet around live music.

A commitment to generational renewal

One of the main lessons from the first edition has been that there is a young audience interested in jazz when the genre is presented through more accessible and participatory formats.

According to the project’s promoters, Jazzfera’s audience is intergenerational and diverse, although the majority of attendees are between 20 and 35 years old. For the team, developing this young audience is essential for the future of a music scene where young talent already exists, but which also needs new audiences.

In this sense, Jazzfera sees culture as a space for participation and community, going beyond simply attending a concert. The aim is for young people to discover jazz, share the experience with their friends and feel part of a vibrant music scene.

Entrepreneurship from LEINN and transforming the local environment

Jazzfera’s journey is also an example of the entrepreneurial nature of the LEINN degree (Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation). Through Kyros, its entrepreneurs have taken an idea into the real world, turning it into a cultural initiative capable of building community and transforming the way people engage with live music.

The project therefore brings together entrepreneurship, culture and local impact, reflecting LEINN’s commitment to learning by doing and developing real projects based on needs and opportunities identified in society.

After a first season that allowed the team to validate the project and build a community around Jazzfera, the entrepreneurs now face the challenge of consolidating the initiative and continuing to bring jazz closer to new generations in Bizkaia.

Jazzfera continues to grow with a young, entrepreneurial outlook and an open approach to diverse audiences.
