European project DRIVES, an ERASMUS +Blueprint Sector Skill Alliance for the automotive sector, celebrates its first year of operation

Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa is one of the 24 members of the European Consortium DRIVES, whose purpose is to implement the objectives of the Blueprint through the establishment of a Skill Alliance for the Automotive Sector. The project began in early 2018, which has led the members to meet and assess the point where the initiative is located.

The meetings were held for 2 days in Lomazzo (Italy) and organised by the ComoNExT1 Innovation Hub. Each work package presented the achievements obtained during the year 2018 and identified the lines of work for the following years, in order to analyse the future needs of the automotive sector. It should be noted that several representatives of DG GROW, from the European Commission, were also present.

During the first year of operation, the project managed to capture the interest of around 400 entities in the automotive sector, which were also invited to the sessions. In addition, the consortium identified more than 20 professional profiles for which universities and vocational training schools will prepare training tools for future pilot tests.

The sessions allowed the attendants to discuss the transfer of skills, the learning market, and the sustainability of the results of the project. The first results show that the consortium faces the challenging dynamics of the project, focusing on all the measures to guarantee the success of the start-up: having a sustainable framework of long-term solutions that reflects the changing environment of the automotive sector.

Since the launch of the DRIVES project in January 2018, several representatives of the consortium have disseminated its mission in different events. In November 2018, they attended the seminar organised by EASME (Executive Agency for Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises), where they shared experiences to maximise the impact beyond the associations. They were also present at a conference by DG Move..

DRIVES is a key piece for compliance with the recommendations of GEAR 2030. The strategy developed by DRIVE is unique and will be crucial for the future of the automotive industry.
