The Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences presents a tool to respond to the digital gap in the employability of women in Alto Deba
The STEM and Digitalization research group of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University has presented a tool named “EDE-Klik morea: Women Digitalization Employability.” Based on their research, they created ede.eus, a digital tool to address the gender gap brought about by digital competence in Alto Deba in relation to employment.

With the collaboration of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and various agents of Alto Deba, the faculty has researched and created a digital ecosystem to respond to the gender gap brought about by digital competence in Alto Deba in relation to employment. The conference was opened by Irati Romero and Egoitz de la Iglesia, researchers from the STEM and Digitalization group of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University. Regarding digitalization, they explained that the group maintains a “strong relationship” with the educational field, though they began research “with the aim of building bridges with other social agents who are aware of the gender gap brought about by digitalization.”
In the research group, idea sessions were initially organized to identify opportunities and contextualize the topic. From there, the group studied ways to carry out their ideas and began to work with Emun and Goisolutions, both firmly rooted in the valley, on the path to activating the development of the ecosystem. In Alto Deba, 59% of job seekers are women and, contrary to the initial hypothesis, although the vast majority have basic or higher digital knowledge, they do not find contexts to use these digital skills in the labor market.
Having become familiar with these data, they began to work with different agents: municipalities in the valley, the greater Alto Deba community, Lanbide, users, etc. After researching the impact of digitalization on the increase in gender gaps, it was decided to design a digital ecosystem that would be free, easy to use and personalized. The training courses offered free of charge in the valley were identified and classified such that personalized pathways can be constructed.
The new ede.eus tool
Based on the results and conclusions of the research, they compiled different tools in ede.eus to reverse the gender gap associated with digitalization. Goisolutions created the web design. Unai Etxebeste, from Goisolutions, introduces the tool as follows: “The tool itself is a training finder, a simple platform to use. An attempt was made to create a pathway in three steps: general areas of employment are defined first, more specific topics in the second step, and modality and level of training in the third step. The tool shows us the training options in the database that meet these characteristics.” The tool also allows users to create an account and design and save customized pathways. Today, the digital tool includes the free training options available in the Debagoiena region.
Round table to reflect on digitalization and the gender gap
With the presentation of the tool, a round table was held that saw the participation of representatives of different agents involved in the research process. The round table was attended by Nagore Ipiña, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University; Sonia Etxenausia, Equality and Gender Advisor at Emun; Loreto Susperregi, Head of Services of the Innovation Directorate of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa; Miren Errasti, Lifelong Learning Mediator at Miguel Altuna; Olaia Gerrikabeitia and Zuriñe Galartza, employment counselors of the greater Alto Deba community; Leire Arregi Vicente, educator in basic digitalization; María del Mar, user of the tool; and Xabier Arnaiz, Head of Bastida Academy.
