The Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University now has a new building on the Eskoriatza campus. After a year of construction following a participatory design process, the new Dorleta building was inaugurated.

The Dorleta building was redesigned in response to the educational transformation project promoted by the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences, and this innovative pedagogical project was the main focus of the process. The renovation has created new spaces for creation, experimentation and research. The interior of the Dorleta building, which was originally built in 1976, has been renovated and new spaces created thanks to a new annex to the façade. Additionally, a new edifice with 1800 square meters of floor space has been built next to the main building and the surrounding areas have been remodeled. The expansion and remodeling project involved an investment of 6 million euros.

Among other things, the new building will house classrooms, offices of some Faculty services, a library, a cafeteria, and the KoLaborategia laboratory for education and communication for the digital society. The objectives of KoLaborategia are to detect and promote future trends in digital education.

According to Faculty Dean Begoña Pedrosa, the goals of the remodeling project were “to create spaces that help to make the university experience a rewarding life experience” and “to understand the Faculty as a place to learn, reflect, experiment, and develop creativity.”

After the building was inaugurated, the 2020-2021 academic year was officially opened. President of the Basque Government Iñigo Urkullu, Dean of Mondragon University Vicente Atxa, Mondragon University General Secretary Idoia Peñakoba, and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences Begoña Pedrosa took part in the event. The academic address was given by Faculty Director of Research and Transfer Nagore Ipiña.

The advanced digital education laboratory, KoLaborategia, integrated into the work of remodeling the Dorleta building, has received financial assistance from the Minstr of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness of the Government of Spain. In addition, the work has receiced financial support from the Gizabidea Foundation and the Mondragon Corporation.
