As part of the month dedicated to Social Innovation, the Irun laboratory of Mondragon Team Academy co-organized together with the team of Fundación Emplea and Koiki, a day dedicated to understanding the problems and creating possible solutions around last mile delivery and social inclusion.

A total of 70 women entrepreneurs in teams from different LEINN laboratories learned first-hand about the case of the company Koiki, which is currently present in 18 Spanish provinces, with 60 active microcenters at the neighborhood level and another 100 waiting to be launched. All of them, generating CO2-free journeys and sustainable employment for groups at risk of social exclusion.

After getting to know the company and its solutions in greater depth, two strategic challenges related to understanding new areas of action and markets (improving the competitiveness of local commerce and the generation of new services for people with dependency) were raised.

The leinners, organized in mixed work teams (different labs and years), collaborated to come up with the best possible solutions. In the context of the event, a healthy competition was promoted for the project team that was able to come up with the best solution in 3 hours.

This competition of ideas is framed in what in the methodology inherited from Timiakatemia Finland, is called Birth Giving, drinking from the Socratic metaphor of illuminating new knowledge. The prize consisted of an amount of 500€ and the opportunity to collaborate with the company in the implementation of the solution.

A great atmosphere of teamwork was generated in a full Irun Lab with more than 70 participating leinners who were devising and responding to the challenges to improve the competitiveness of local commerce and to generate new services for people with dependency.

The winning team was composed of Mirari from Omma (MTA Irun Lab), Carlo from Gamma (MTA Irun Lab) and Pablo from Hagalaz (MTA Bilbao Lab), who proposed to distribute through Koiki services, food in good condition discarded from catering establishments, in collaboration with apps that already work in this line. The rest of the teams also proposed very interesting solutions such as the creation of a telephone support line for the elderly, or a platform for buying zero kilometer products, which were highly valued.

The jury was composed of Nerea Ortizen, head of Koiki Centers Network; Unai Andueza, director of strategic projects of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa; Jon Zamora, CEO of Fundación Emplea and Liher Pillado, team coach of the LEINN degree of the Irun laboratory. In addition, we had the participation of an audience composed of representatives of organizations with projects and interests around social innovation such as Sutargi, Peñascal, Irun Ekintza and the Association of local commerce of Irun, among others.

The Fundación Emplea team led and energized this event as part of a project funded by the Provincial Council of Guipúzcoa.

To all the participants and organizations that made it possible: mila esker!
